WTH is WRONG with these governments. In order to keep those incentives, they should have to keep a certain number of full time employees. It's like the bail out after the MBS financial fiasco. These companies, who's CEO's should be in JAIL, got massive government-paid bonuses!

Btw that Ark was on a Bill Nye doc. The guy who made the Ark and another museum made it to testify and show that science is a belief and evolution doesn’t exist and with the animals on the Ark were also dinosaurs like the Stegosaurus, Pterodactyl, and the T-Rex. And if you ask him why those Dino’s aren’t alive anymore, it isn’t because a giant asteroid smashed into basically the Gulf of Mexico and snowballed planet Earth for millions of years no that’s silly it’s because the government is hiding them and he cited Jurassic park as fuckin evidence. And he’s also a homophobic racist pos who denies climate change and global warming, and invites schools to this thing too. So children are being exposed to complete bullshit and being told it’s the truth and usually you want those facts from your shitty relatives who don’t know shit but never from a place that calls itself a museum.

There is currently so much going wrong in the USA which can go better. This is my advice: Andrew Yangs idea of UBI of $1000 for every american citizen at the age of 18 or above, paying with tax on amazon and other billionaire tech companies, is important. It will uplift the down-to-middle class, the working class and provide people above the poverty line. The money will also circulate in local business, create millions of jobs and get rid of lots of bureaucracy. Additionally, you could cut spending on military budget, since it's overkill - the US army is strong enough to just defend it self. It doesn't need to go into war and cause more problems in other parts of the world. The US army is not just the strongest on earth, but better equipped than the three following combined. That money could else be used for a free healthcare, something Bernie Sanders talks in great detail about, how it should be a human right, and how basically every other civilized first world nation on earth has. In politics, the end goal is always to increase general well-being of the people which make up that nations society. Legalizing marijuana could also enrich the economy, create more transactions, more workplaces, but simultaneously would be more just by stopping needless suffering. This needless suffering is in viewing people who just want to enjoy something, which only would threat their own body by their free choice, as criminals, putting them in jail - basically a victimless crime for a drug less harmful than the legal drug alcohol. Then the USA should get back into Paris climate agreement. A president needs to be in charge to doesn't deny scientific facts but accepts them and bases his decisions on them. A president who is honest, takes responsibility, who doesn't lie, who is intelligent and who for once actually listens to expert opinion. Then the police executive force needs to be reformed, best by introducing ethical tests, analogous to IQ tests, to determine if an applier has potential prejudiced and discriminatory views. Also a longer training time, combined with mandatory attending lectures about the philosophy of ethics and justice would be helpful. On a geopolitical level, diplomacy is generally better than division through sanctions. On an inner-political level, a stable infrastructure and well education system is essential. College should be free, as it is in Germany. And it turns out, it works better in German than it does in the USA. In the education systems, secularism is important. Homework and standardised testing needs to be abolished. The focus should be in philosophy (logic, ethics, justice, great thinkers and their ideas) and science (math, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy), but also important are economics, government, society, sports and the creative arts, like music, play, literature and art. The education system also needs a reform. Private schools should be abolished, for better training of cooperative working, as well as richer parents having to invest into the system to provide better education for their children, simultaneously making the general education for children of all lower classes better. Concerning human health, as well as preventing needless animal suffering and slaughtering, and a more sustainable environment, a primarily plant based diet is advised. In the electorial, as well as congress votes, a negative vote should be introduced to the already existing positive vote. The votes of academics, PhD's and intellectuals should count more. There is so much that needs to change in america, to make that country better, smarter, greater, more just, wealthy, equal, free, pleasurable and rational than it is now. The truth is that the world is currently laughing at the USA. This does not need to be the case. This has been my advice.

I watched this a while ago & didn't rewatch the whole thing, but I believe one thing the show glossed over is especially with that film production section is the difference between tax breaks or similar measures which reduce the amount a company needs to pay, an pure subsidies (i.e. paying a company), the latter which tends to be rare with these incentives. This gets into why a government may feel it makes sense to accept a scheme even if under the best scenario you're only making 7 cents on the dollar, because you're making 7 cents. The government may not be literally spending 1 dollar. Rather they are forgoing 93 cents they would otherwise have earned without those tax breaks. But if the company wouldn't come without those 93 cents, then they aren't actually losing 93 cents. The are in fact still gaining those 7 cents. As John Oliver does mention, this depends on how confident you are the company wouldn't have come otherwise, as we saw with the Amazon-New York deal for example. However the wider issue IMO is the race to the bottom you've effectively engaging in, a worldwide problem. You see it with film and TV production tax breaks and other incentives for new companies. As I come from NZ, I know a lot of this (and other crap) goes on here. Yet I also can sort of understand why successive governments have let it go on. They see we're gaining more than we're losing precisely because they know how mobile film product is (as John Oliver did mention) and so we would likely have a lot fewer locating here were it not for these incentives. You also see it with general tax offers like ordinary corporate tax rates. A country lowers their corporate tax rate so there's an incentive for companies to locate there (or earn their 'profits' there), which means other countries feel they have to follow suit to remain competitive. Then there's the EU-Ireland situation, where Ireland has been fighting so they don't have to collect more tax from Apple. It's not because Ireland hates Apple's money, it's because the intentionally designed a system to attract companies by offering them a complicated regime where they pay very low taxes, and they know full well many companies won't be there otherwise. From their PoV, and they're probably right about it, they're earning more because they've managed to attract enough companies to set up structures there where they pay some tax and employ some people, in exchange for paying for less than they would in plenty of other places. It isn't just tax breaks either, the same thing goes on with environmental, worker rights, etc regulation and laws (including minimum wage). To be clear, I'm not saying the Connecticut film situation is a good thing. I'm simply saying I'm not sure this episode did a good job of explaining what "earning 7 cents on the dollar" actually means and why it may make sense to some even without taking into account any other possible gains. To put it in Starburst terms, paying $1 for a single Starburst may seem a bad deal, but if you really want Starburst and so does everyone else so it's now what you need to pay, well.....

I'm unemplyed in Finland. The taxman takes 20% tax on my dole, because I don't have any taxcut benefits because I'm unemployed. The rightwing politicians immediately when they got into the goverment repealed the maximum rent law. Now the rightwing politicians ask all the time why do unemployed finns get over €1000 in a month and the answer is because about €800 of it goes to the rent. But when you tell them that that is the same as giving tax money straigth to landlords they don't listen you. Now there's a huge drive to make unemployed start up businesses and the only reason for that is to get the statistics neater.

I love how we pay taxes for road maintenance and upkeep as well as infrastructure yet these companies use and abuse them more than tax payers do combined, given shipping and manufacturing demands. We are driving over potholes, yet their roads and lots are always like new. It is not acceptable to allow any major business such as these to dodge taxes the way they do. If anything they should have a much, much higher tax than we do since they use those features more than the average Joe. This isn’t the capitalism that Adam Smith envisioned. The United States has bastardized the hell out of his principles. It has become too corrupt. The blue collar worker is now no more than a common slave wiping the asses of his masters. However it isn’t sustainable. Adam Smith warmed that if the economic gap grew too great that it would all collapse completely. And the greedy don’t care for foresight not morality, so it is coming. It’s been happening, some of it is just spread out over so much time that you cannot see how tightly it is interwoven. And few will suffer now than those gluttonous enough to have caused it. The poor are used to doing without and finding other means of survival, the wealthy aren’t capable of surviving without their financial resources. They will be among a sea of enemies in the real world they will fall helplessly into. And they will look to their prior slaves to save them from their own incompetency at being “men”.

I have believe in a economy very similar to today's world but with one major change. If to few people/entity/business/thing own most of the money a certain percentage must always be available to the community/public of the world. There should always be at least 65% of the money in today's dollars available to the public and must maintain a pattern similar to it at the end of every year. Whether to earn, keep, or other economic choices, This change can be possible if we allow the cost of living (basic food/water/shelter) to be free for all, but only the bare minimum. This will free the economy to be more focused on businesses and it will allow governments to change the pattern of it with out causing any harm to any one seriously in there way of living. I also believe that there should be a futuristic economy were it doesn't focus on supply and demand. The cost of basic living is free and the creation of what the world is interested in is what is only relevant and pattern of money is irrelevant as long as the goal was completed.

Honest question, what would happen if all the states decided that they no longer want to give tax breaks to these big corporations, what exactly are they going to do? Will they decide not to do business in quite possibly the biggest market on the planet? Will they go to Europe where the taxes are even higher, and the benefits to corporations are much lower? What's stopping the states from saying "Pay your taxes, or fuck off".
