The important thing to remember is that unions for public employees are different from unions for private employees, which are in decline. Limiting the power of police unions isn't as bad as limiting the power of, say, miner unions, because mining companies are concerned solely with profits, and will want as little union power as possible, whereas governments have no such goal of profit, and want whatever increases the general betterment of society

I got recommended this video that I have already watched, liked and possibly commented on... I usually do comment on his videos lol... Anyway I have to 🙌🙌 🙌🙌 🙌🙌 ✔👍👏🧍‍♀️👏🧍‍♀️👏🧍‍♀️👏🧍‍♀️👏👍🔥 to the zoom caller at the 1:40 minutes mark with his amazing, and stunningly spot on comments on his interpretation of everything going on with the L.A. - BLM protesters, the extremely uncalled for, and excessive amount of unnecessary use of physical force and restraint that was uncalled for, unnecessary and highly questionable. There are good and bad people in every profession. It's abundantly clear that some of the bad cops, who give the good honest cops (trying to be as helpful to the public as they can) a bad name and image. You just know that the bad cops were bullies back in their school days OR were bullied themselves. So they went for a job where they are technically and legally allowed to be bullies in their workplace and they get paid to do so... it's their dream job. Those bad cops who were bullied in school are taking out past wrongs done to them onto completely innocent strangers. They really should be in some sort of therapy! Not self soothing, and somewhat/sort of self medicating themselves and their past traumas by bullying virtually complete strangers who had absolutely nothing to do with their childhood/teenage traumas. I'm all for restructuring the police forces. Clearly defining exactly what they can and can not "police" , they definitely need to stop setting quotas for how many tickets they have to issue each month. With the introduction of "red light" cameras, and the more they are installed it seems the lesser traffic violation tickets that they are issuing. You use to know when it was the end of the month, schedule wise for the police as they would be pulling people over for going 1 or 2 clicks over the posted speed limit or for not coming to a complete stop at stop signs and other such minor infractions that they could possibly get away with charging people for.

I think what Biden said is still relevant, its just another step wrong in asking why the fuck did he attempt to kill the person, do they do it because im the back of their mind it might be too much extra work then just having the body? I think really we need to see how both are problems like when that female cop named Amber something shot a guy in his apartment she did not attempt to threaten him to get on the ground despite having the clear superiority in the situation ... with the gun ... but she chose to shoot him fatally even considering just the invasion of a house with a guy literally just sitting down ... that was the question I asked, how the fuck did she think that was the right choice. Do you think she literally cared more about staining the carpets with blood more than the human life? This is where inconvenience makes me wonder wonder what's really going through these peoples head.

I understand the dire need for change in policing in the US today. There is ALOT wrong with how we do things. I have one concern with the tenor of the conversation. If we keep preaching that all policemen are racists and white supremacists, and you are successful in getting everyone to believe that, then the only people left who will want to be cops are racists and white supremacists. The only thing saving the job of a police officer was its social status as an 'honorable profession' akin to teachers or nurses. No reasonable person will want to be shot at, spit on, cursed at all day at work for little money, and now to top it off be called a racist by your friends and neighbors. I worry this will increase the exact discrimination these protestors are opposed to.

I like a lot of the things that were put into perspective here. I think I understand a lot better now how the issue is really spread across the whole system and isn't just focused on individual aspects. I just don't know how you balance out the need to fund the right services and to make Police less dangerous to communities they're supposed to be protecting with the notion of keeping things safe-the point of rapes makes sense, but what about mass shootings? Gang violence? Stolen vehicles? I think that scares a lot of people. And when you live in a place where firearms are relatively common or in some places encouraged, how do you keep your community and the people that serve it safe? There are some genuinely sick people out there. So do we accept the fact that maybe some people are going to get injured or die from violence (as they already are by the hands of police) with the trade off of people being more equally treated, I don't know.

If more crimes are committed in an area where the cops are always more present than how is it to say that more crimes are being committed in that area? It's over policing of areas with a larger number of minorities and low income people. This is not a partisan issue. It's something everyone should be worried about. Especially if a family member or friend is mentally ill or disabled and the police decide to use force. Not every cop is a bad person, the institution, however, rewards or ignores bad behaviors, as shown by the evidence in this video. He did mention over policing in the video when he spoke about Bill Clinton wanting to hire thousands more police officers

No, it doesn't because you quite clearly didn't watch the clip its from Because it isn't about a single individual or even one community, it is far larger than what you are imagining. To explain: She's talking about general economics in the US, you know... the largest economy in the world that somehow still manages to spend more on bribes, military and CEOs for larger companies than for startups, education or healthcare? "We built your wealth" is a reference to the Tulsa massacre among many, many other events throughout US' history. No, the looters and rioters aren't burning down innocent people's houses and businesses because "We don't own anything so neither should you"; its because folks have tried for decades, centuries even, to build the wealth and possibility to become someone that is so iconic to "The American Dream" that people are to the point where... seeing things they couldn't afford in a lifetime whilst others walking up and down the street next to them casually throw around and throw away... That means that folks feel its pointless to try anymore so they opted for the only thing they had left as an option; if they can't afford it, but society pressures people that displays of average wealth is important... theft is the only option left. No, its not about revenge. No, its not about justice. No, its not about a few odd people feeling repressed. Its about the reality that for centuries, the US has been a promise land... that only delivered on the promise to oppression, depression and regression of human values. Sorry mate, but it ain't revenge... its just the reality that folks feel forced to do this in order to get anywhere within' this fabled "American Dream".

@Brick Schitthouse 1- Whether it's a chain store or a small business does matter, those companies have the resources and insurance to mitigate damages, small businesses often don't. I'm not saying that those lootings were justified either, but they're better than the alternative and trying to portray all looting as being done on small businesses isn't accurate. 2- Give me a source to disprove that. And if that's true, I'll note that I didn't specify BLM protests, I meant all of the protests related to George Floyd 3- Why "sigh"? Vandalizing or removing statues is far better than other acts of violence, as is blocking roads. And vandalism can range wildly in severity. Not condoning the people who did start fights or loot/vandalize small businesses or chain stores, but much of the violence is less severe than what I instinctively think of when I think of "violence", and violent incidents caused by police and right-wing groups (which I'll get into below) seem to be worse. 4- Sure, doesn't have to be a protest to have violence, but than if it isn't a protest you can't blame BLM or the other protest organizers or the general cause. I don't even know what your point is here. 5- Rallies are different from protests, Democratic rallies were the same way. This is an apples to oranges comparison, and does nothing to support your claim. 6- 7% of protest were violent, with violence being counted if it occurred in a small fraction of the total area, with acts like taking down statues being classified as violence, and with a significant percentage of the violence being caused by non-protestors. This violence committed by non-protestors includes violence committed by the police, committed by militias and extremist groups, and violence committed by nonaffiliated individuals or individuals affiliated with street gangs who vandalized and looted for personal gain. If 7% of protests were violent due to the protestors, I'd agree with you, but that's just not the case. 7- Police aren't being attacked in the vast majority of these protests, and like my source said, they were more likely to employ disproportionate force at racial justice protests. Police officers are trained to have discipline in events like this. And should they use force against journalists, who are doing literally nothing but covering the events? Because at least 100 journalists have been arrested by police and 114 have been physically attacked. 80% of journalist violence at these protests have been caused by police 8- "At least 66 incidents of vehicles driving into crowds of protesters were recorded from May 27 to July 6, with at least four ruled accidental and seven involving police officers. Since 2015, such actions have been encouraged against Black Lives Matter protests by "Run Them Over" and "All Lives Splatter" memes online, as well as items posted on Fox News and on social media by police officers." My bad, I shouldn't have said dozens, I should've specified 66 incidents of vehicles ramming protestors, with only 4 of them officially ruled as accidental, and 7 involving police literally ramming protestors. Them being on the roads is no excuse to run someone over 9- I agree that most police are normal, I have several relatives in different police forces, but there is less of an excuse for the ones that do act out. Police shouldn't have bad apples at these protests, or should have less than protestors. They are paid by the public to act in their interest and they are trained to be disciplined in far more stressful situations than this. If they feel personally insulted by these protests, that is an explanation not an excuse. 10-I said right-wing militias because those are the militias who were causing the vast majority of the militia related violence, and who are the most likely to come to protests. There have been 136 confirmed sightings of right-wing militias, with many more likely unconfirmed, while there have been notably less sightings of left-wing militias and extremist groups. You're right that left-wing extremist groups like Antifa have made certain protests worse, like the police free zone in Seattle. But for the record, right-wing extremist groups have caused more violence, both at these protests and historically. Antifa hasn't actually killed anyone in their entire history. (www.businessinsider.com/right-wing-extremists-kill-329-since-1994-antifa-killed-none-2020-7). This is in part because Antifa isn't really a unified organization like the Proud Boys or BLM, but is more loosely organized, with many smaller groups classifying as Antifa. However, I apologize for that, it was misleading and I frankly think Antifa does far more harm than good. While they haven't killed anyone directly, I have no doubt that they have indirectly caused deaths by making tense situations worse. 11- You can think that about the Times, but that's an excuse not to look at it critically. Even "garbage" sources can be right (I've agreed with PragerU videos and conservative journalists before, for example) and the Times was quoting a study that wasn't conducted by them. Prove that the study is wrong or biased, and then you'd have a point.

@Curran Frank 1 Doesnt matter. 2 The peaceful protests are NOT the BLM protests. 3 sigh 4 doesnt have to be a protest to have violence 5 Trump rallies have lots of people, no violence. 6 LOL only 7% f protests are violent LMAO 7 Police should be using force when they are outnumbered 100-1 8 Block the highway, get your ass run over. Stay off the fucking roads. 9 Most police are normal, just like your beloved BLM, a few bad apples. 10 right wing? because militias can only be right wing? not left wng or no wing at all? Not personal businesses, I'm sure the chains aren't struggling 2- 93% of the protests have been entirely peaceful, and even in the ones that weren't classified as peaceful, much of the violence was limited to specific blocks. And even then, 3- Violence is defined as ranging from fights to vandalism to toppling statues to blocking roads, so there's a wide variety of violent acts that range from severe to relatively mild. 4- To add numbers, there have been over 2,400 protests that have been entirely peaceful, and less than 220 protests that have violent incidents, 38 of those were damaging or removing a lifeless statue, and even more were incidents of vandalism or blocking roads 5- Not to mention, like Oliver said, it's unreasonable to expect a large decentralized protest from controlling all of it's members. So, it's reasonable to attribute the violent acts and looting to bad apples 6- Two groups you can't claim just have bad apples are the police and right wing militias, who are responsible for a large part of the 7% of the protests that do turn violent. 7- According to one study, police "use force more often than not" when dealing with these protests, and they're more likely to use disproportionate force at BLM protests than any others 8- There have been dozens of car ramming attacks on the protestors by counter protestors, which is a much clearer example of violence than much of the actions committed by BLM protestors 9- Police should be expected to have control over their members, since they're paid by the public and are expected to remain levelheaded in these situations. 10- Right wing militias have no reason to be at these protests and always exacerbate tensions, even if the tensions don't end in violence. time.com/5886348/report-peaceful-protests/

Like I said, only a matter of time before the minorities become the majority. Only white rich people and people in government can make racism and oppression a thing of the past or continue on to reap what you sow.

And now we learn that county sheriffs in Michigan were collaborating with white supremacist militias who planned to kidnap and kill the governor.

If you defund the police you will end up like minneapolis. Rise in crime.

I remember going to college a couple years ago. I had just gotten out of an extremely abusive relationship and lived with my aunt and uncle. For no reason at all for a month straight whenever I got home from school, police kept stopping me because I "looked suspicious". Seriously? A stop and frisk to stop me for what? I was a college student who just escaped abuse and two cops seeing me with a blackened eye and split bottom lip buying snacks from Family Dollar to help me focus on other things and they stopped me...for nothing. I told them that no matter how much they searched me, I've no intention of committing a crime. It got so bad that my uncle (retired Airforce sergeant) had to call the Sheriff. After that, never again was I stopped or bothered when getting off the bus. Also, just because I dress in dark clothes doesn't mean I'm trying to commit a crime like drug dealing or having stole a gun. (Yeah, that's what they said) || I support the police, but if you're stopping people for no bullshit reason at all, they don't deserve to be in the field.

@ArgentumEmperio I know, it was stupid. I came to find out after the BS they did, they got fired for doing the same thing to 3 other women. The reason: they wanted to get laid. Poor excuse and pretty despicable. They're supposed to uphold the law, not use it for their own disgusting needs.

I am a staunch supporter of law and order as well as all elected and hired officials working in that field. But... that doesn't mean that I don't want the police to have a harder time, which is what everyone who is against Defunding the Police is advocating. To defund the police would make their job easier because then they'd have fewer folks they had to take care of and instead you would have healthcare workers taking care of drug addicts rather than folks with batons trying to force people to stop taking drugs by killing a few and assaulting the others. Wearing dark clothes isn't illegal, but assaulting someone is; the police should be held accountable for things that are actually illegal when done for no reason rather than try to stop people for wearing clothes...

There's bad apples....then there's bad barrels of apples....then there's the bad barrel makers....then there's the people who inspect the barrels, and just send the bad barrels on their way. And just to be clear...we ALL eat those apples.

I don't actually think that Bidens quote about shooting them in the leg instead of the heart is nonsense. Right now, cops are trained to shoot to kill always on the gun range. Imagine if their training was totally flipped, and they were trained to use every non lethal tactic first to take down a threat, and save the 10 ring pistol shot for their absolute last resort, instead of their first instinctive action. And why aren't police departments developing better non lethal weapons? Have we learned nothing from Star Trek phasers? We've got the tech, people!

There's no such thing as non-lethal gun use. They're weapons designed to kill. Likewise, having fired a "warning shot" is a great way to get a self defense pleas thrown out, because being in a context where you can fire so called warning shots indicates you weren't in life threatening danger.

In all honesty, I'd love to ask immigrant entertainers like Oliver and Jefferies if they regret their decision. Not being snarky, interested.

I live in a country where it took 100 years to even acknowledge the the problem(South Africa) but guess what! hahh our police system doesnt do enough and not in the way of racism because any racism is too much its the fact that one of the biggest industries here are security . Let that sink in . I am 12 and have had a gun pointed at me, not cops criminals.
