Ok, so. I would like to clarify that yes, it is fucking weird that most people in the Thai society would even find him "cool". But most of the context of the "Hitler" obsession is actually to criticize the Thai military government. It is meant to represent the oppression and deny of humans rights Thai citizens feel. In my view, the sign of Hitler is actually saying, "Hitler is not dead yet". I feel like because of the Thai law and how the military uses it to oppress people, some people had to get creative and use it as a satire. It is fucked up that they used Hitler, make jokes about it, and looking chummy with the idea of "cool" Hitler. But it's even more fucked that the law denies the basic human right such as freedom of speech where people "Had" to get creative to criticize the government and the monarchy.

I'm Thai. I'm sorry that my English is strange because I use Google Translate. I know Hitler But why do I have to hate him like the West ? Hitler did not massacre people in Thailand. Did not attack Thailand. And at that time, Thailand has diplomatic relations with Germany are good, too. At that time I should hate the Japanese invading Thailand more than Hitler. But.....I also don't hate Japan very much. Because after the Japanese landing shortly. The governments of both countries shook hands as a Partner. Finally ... for the country that I hate the most is English and French for sure Because hunting for the settlement of both countries caused Thailand to lose a lot of land.

People of Thailand watch all kinds of atrocities committed by powerful politicians on the world like Hitler, Churchill, Stalin, Mao Tze Tung etc. We can go along that Churchill is a good guy because he is the victor. But whoever sincerely think Churchill is better than Hitler, please read more history. Concentration camp? Just ask Indian people of Bengal. So stop imposing your prejudice on us. We don't even care much of how the Palestinian are suffering TODAY in Western-sponsored concentration camp, in the GAZA/West Bank. And you are asking us to worry about some very bad thing which happen 75 years back? We mostly stay politically quiet, so please afford us this small amusement.

I still enjoy the show for its entertainment value, but it can't be trusted when it comes to factual reporting. I remember them making quite a few false claims in the "Medical Bias" episode that really shocked me. Saying that there "obviously aren't" physical differences between the races is not only ignorant, but dangerous. I thought we could trust this show, but clearly we can't. And while some people might say, "But they only made that one mistake". Maybe, that we know of. That's the thing with reporting. Either you can trust them completely, or not at all. If they lied/misinformed to you once, there's no way tell if they are doing it about other things as well. If a GOOD journalist makes a mistake, they print a redaction to make sure everyone knows. But this show has made mistakes and never addresses them.

The world history aren’t given much attention here. In Grade 1-9 (Yes, 9 years), we were taught with propagandized history of Thailand created by the military. They depicted countries like Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, even Vietnam to be the bad guys. A lot of history outside my country usually placed in high school and university level. That’s why Hitler became a joke around here.

A couple of impressions: I worked in a school in Thailand. When I told the students I`m from Germany, one child asked me if I know about Hitler. ...Ehm, yes, I do. And Germans don`t like him. Why, he asked. Well... he killed a lot of people, though..... Later that evening I went to some Kind of market with some friends. One guy sold cloths… One with a fcking huge Nazisymbol. You wanna buy that?, a friend asked. ...No, I don`t. ...WTF`s wrong with you?

I live in Czech Republic-how did I not seen that tv show? I need to go watch it right now... In all seriousnes, we czech have dark humor and by dark I mean really, really dark and that include making fun of Hitler, religion(it doesn´t really matter what the religion in question is) besides that tv show obviously didn´t cause too much atention in Czechia, I don´t know anybody who watched it and I doubt that a lot of people did. Out public television(in the fottage you can see it aired on station ct1) experiments with genres a lot and given that we mostly set our tv shows and movies and movies in the time period between First republic and 1989 this was simply bound to happened sonner or later.

To be fair, most Westerners are not familiar with the Khmer Rouge. But you wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood made a movie out of it and end up probably where one would get their information about it. Granted, Hitler started WW2. But still, Thailand wasn't part of WW2 and they had their own problems to deal with. I'm torn.

(Disclaimer: Below comment is not written to offend any community or any race) HITLER is known for different things in different parts of the world: (No offense) I can understand why its difficult for Europeans and Americans to digest this fact - ----------because History is different in different parts of the world. For example in India, many people don't oppose if not support Hitler cause he provided some firepower to Indian freedom fighters during Independence struggle (I hope you guys understand what I am implying). And when it comes to Thailand - they don't really care, cause its not their history.

I am Thai. It’s true that world history is not crucial in Thailand. However it’s not every circumstances in world history which thai people ignore. Because in WWII, Thailand didn’t have a lot of participation in international politics. There’s a little effects to Thailand(in Thai’s opinion). Vice versa, some history ,such as, colonialism from European countries are always in people minds. Thai people know Hitler is dictator who cause genocide and holocaust, but what about the country where conquered around the earth, enslave people, stole resources from others? I know both are bad, but Thai people ain’t just interested it as much as Americans and other citizens who be affected from WWII.
TheEagleOfLightAndNight
TheEagleOfLightAndNight 8 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
The Thai revere Hitler in the same way people tend to revere powerful military leaders like Napoleon or Genghis Khan. If you're wondering, how can they neglect the holocaust, ask your self: How well known is, say, the genocide of East-Timor in Europe or North-America. Don't get me wrong - revering Hitler is inappropriate, but in the Asian context it isn't really that surprising. Revering powerful military leaders in general (no pun intended) is problematic, since about all of them did horrible things.

it's too funny and too disturbing at the same time. From Thais perspective they don't see Hitler as a real person (they know he is real) but western history is somewhat beyond their everyday life and they simple don't care much. People get to know Hitler from Hollywood films that painted him as a typically villain guy in the movie. For Thai Hitler is like another character from movie, let's say like Voldemort in Harry Potter or Darth Vader in Star Wars that's why they see Hitler in a part of Pop-culture icons. Thai thinks Hitler looks funny and unique as a movie's character but doesn't mean that Thais supports Nazi or like the idea of Nazi killing Jews or Aryan people is superior. Lacking of knowledge at all I don't agree because they do know about WWII very well they suffered from it too but neglecting of history very much.

Please do not look at us in a pessimistic way! Wearing a T-shirt with Hitler's face doesn't mean that the person has to support the dictator. For some people it may be implied not to forget this person what he has done. Believe me. In the next 50 years, there will be shirt makers of the North Korean leaders in Thailand.

To everyone here talking about Che Guevara shirts: just stop. There are 3 problems with the main arguments I'm seeing: 1. Most people who wear them know exactly who he was and what he did, and wear the shirt because, while most people who wear the shirt are long-haired, pacifist hippies, the famous photo of him that is on it has become a symbol among the left of the fight against the imperialist machine that modern capitalism has become. It's more the ideas the photograph and the man represent. Which I agree is kinda stupid (especially since the shirts are all made in sweatshops and Che himself would probably be outraged that an American company is printing shirts with his face for their own nefarious purposes), but it's not like they're doing it without knowing anything about Che Guevara. 2. Che is NOT Hitler by any means, and comparing him to Hitler is extremely disingenuous and underhanded. Che was a complicated man and no saint, especially in his personal life, but seriously - look up the people whom he was fighting against. The dictators and regimes he helped to overthrow and fight against were BRUTAL human rights abusers, who ran corrupt, quasi-fascist military juntas. And yes, the tactics he utilized were pretty brutal (but nowhere near the levels of the people he was fighting) as well, but to people who know the full story of his life and who realize that you can't overthrow ruthless dictators non-violently, these actions are nowhere as immoral as they seem by themselves. When you look at the crimes of those he fought against, his actions suddenly seem a LOT more justified. Americans are taught to hate him because he hated America and capitalism. But he hated America because many of the dictators he helped to fight against were installed by the CIA for being friendly to US trade interests - in that they'd allow US fruit companies to buy up sovereign land and basically run slave plantations where they'd hire non-US citizens and treat them like dirt. This was incredibly unpopular locally for obvious reasons, which is why the dictators had to be brutal if they wanted to stay in power. Regardless of the unintended results, the morally detestable means or the Marxism, the thing Che was directly fighting for was sovereignty for Latin America, and freedom and better lives for its people (this is why I think wearing him on shirts is disrespectful, especially since he died a martyr for this cause, but I can't ban or censor shirts), and the areas where he succeeded did noticeably better a lot of people's lives, if only to replace fascist regimes with illiberal democracies that succumbed to corruption - but the instability in these places afterward is not his fault, and even this was still a MAJOR improvement in many people's lives. What he was fighting for was COMPLETELY different from Hitler, who fought for basically the opposite of that for Europe and the world. In fact, Che is featured in, and is the poster man for a video by Simon Whistler called "the top 10 people who did terrible things for good reasons" ( papost.info/slow/v/umeuop6mgoexi30 ). 3. The whole t-shirt argument is textbook whataboutism. Even if you think Che is still evil, or on the same level as Hitler despite what I just told you, we're not talking about that here. We're talking about Thailand and Hitler imagery. You're making the Che shirt argument because you're some conservative who feels like this segment is "singling out" the right in some way, so you think arguing that the left is somehow doing the same thing by wearing Che shirts (which it is ostensibly NOT^^^) somehow either makes wearing Hitler imagery okay, or at the very least cancels out any incrimination of the right. Just stop. This is a childish tactic. Admit that Thais or American conservatives who revere Hitler are wrong and move on. If it's not you wearing a Hitler t-shirt, then why do you care?!

@Stev For as much as you have a point about him not backing up his points with actual arguments or evidence, you're not completely innocent in that regard yourself, buddy. Do you happen to recall, or SEE your first response to me up there? "No the reason people give the Che Shirt is people like you" And you said that despite the fact that in all my previous comments I state MULTIPLE TIMES that I think Che shirts are stupid. What is that other than mudslinging and insults while completely ignoring any actual rhetoric? Make sure you're in order before you dig into others, friend. And before you write your next response, yes: later you backed yourself up beyond straight insults (albeit not with very strong arguements). But notice how I use the phrase, "you're not *completely* innocent" - even if it wasn't the only one you used, you still used this tactic, and are still a hypocrite for criticizing someone else for using it.
